I hope that's not true, that's like suggesting that Twilight isn't good enough as she is.
The show should focus on being proud of who and what you are, not aspiring to be some other breed entirely.

I also don't like the idea that princesshood is just a treat to be given out as a favor.
Cadence confused me, even though I do like her character.
The more royalty that is introduced, the less special Celestia and Luna become, and they were originally represented as god-like in the mythology of Equestria.

I just hope that all the fanart is wrong and Twilight doesn't magically become an alicorn.
Blueblood is just a regular unicorn and he's a prince, so the wings are clearly not necessary.

Let it be known that I have begun my journey in the MLP: FiM storyline. Very Happy

I have to say, I'm impressed with the humor factor in it. The expressions are adorable. It's bordering on anime, but just unique enough to capture my full attention.

I think it was hinted that Twilight was going to be a princess in the first episode. I mean, look at that tiara, so yeah, not shocked that her official princess-crowning was going to be official.

And NiGHTS, don't be too drawn back from Twilight. I'm pretty sure that her status as a princess isn't gonna take away much from her character, nor will it take much away from Celestia & Luna due to them being around MUCH longer than anypony around. Experience speaks volumes, after all.

Haven't caught up to the other chars yet, so I won't say anything about them.

Actually NiGHTS it's even been confirmed on the official MLP:FIM wiki-page. Screenshots included and also one screenshot even has the tag Pony Princess on the lower left corner. Apparently Twilight finds some magical cure that she has to make herself in order to correct a spell she cast to undo a spell she did that switched her and her friends cutie marks and destinies and that unlocks her being a princess. Personally I do hope she doesn't remain a princess because I enjoy her as a unicorn. Plus there is another season after this.

I have mixed feelings about Twilight being a princess. But I had mixed feelings when I heard that there was going to be a Princess in the series, way back at the beginning.
My feeling is to sit tight and just wait to see how they do this. I saw the picture and wasn't convinced that this is a good thing for Twilight's character.
But I'll wait and watch before I get negative.

I kind of agree with NiGHTS about there being too many princesses... though then again, way back in G1, there was an entire herd of Princess Ponies.

What confuses me is this - if ponies ascend to being a princess through their actions, what is the explanation for Cadence? She was a princess as a filly, far too young to have proven herself worthy.
I'd be very interested to hear an official explanation of her backstory.

And the tiara was a hint, I think that Spyn is right. All the other ponies just got fancy necklaces, and I don't think that the magic cares what shape the jewelry takes... it could have channeled up from a necklace and through Twilight's horn if need be... XD

The cutie mark switching sounds like an interesting plot device, so if that's true, I do want to see that.

I also want to doodle Cornsilk with wings now, just to see what she'd look like as a princess!
Maybe strap on wings, it can be her Nightmare Night costume. Smile

All in all, if Twilight is going to remain a Alicorn, cause there is a 4th season that has been annouced, I'm keeping her as a Unicorn in the RP I'm doing on my fanfiction.net forum page.

Still before that episode we have a return to the Crystal Empire episode first.

If the alicorn upgrade is a result of switched cutie marks and magic, I would guess that it won't be permanent - for example, if it's Cadence she switched with, maybe Cadence loses her wings for the episode while Twilight gains them?
I'm just guessing, I haven't heard much on the subject.

Seriously though, has Lauren Faust said anything on the subject? The tiara was introduced back when she was still in charge of the show, so if there was a plan for making Twilight a princess, she would have been in on it.

I believe the previous & Upcomming episodes are connected to each other. Like they both happened on the same day. While the last episode was focused on the supporting cast while this one is returning focus back on the main cast.

Lauren Faust left production of the series after season 2. She has nothing to do with what's happening in this season. Outside statements I have no idea but in regards to the shows production no she hasn't

Well tomorrow is the infamous last episode of Season 3 and the coronation episode where Twilight Sparkle becomes a princess. I have read the summery on the MLP: FIM wiki and apparently Princess Celestia will be singing one of the songs in this episode.
